The Brong Ahafo Regional Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service has debunked allegations that the Techiman Police had granted bail to two alleged armed robbers and was not protecting the identity of an informant.

Last week, one Mr Kojo Adjei accused the Techiman Police of granting bail to two alleged armed robbers he had assisted to arrest.

ASP Tawiah, Regional PRO, denied the claims in an interview with The Finder.

He said Mr Adjei only assisted in helping others to send the robbers to the police station.

According to ASP Tawiah, Detective Sergeant S. Appiah helped one Suraju Tahiru, a 40-year-old businessman from Fosukrom, a suburb of the Techiman Municipality, to arrest Abudulai Seibo, a Nigerian, and Mohammed Musah, a Burkinabe, both herdsmen.

He said the two robbers were in the company of three other men who ordered Suraju Tahiru and his brother, Ali Malik, to surrender their money, but following resistance from his brother, they fled, leaving behind a jacket.

The incident took place at Fosukrom junction on July 24, 2014.

He said Suraju on July 30, 2014 identified the two people, Abudulai Seibu and Mohammed Musah, at the Tamale Lorry Station. He raised an alarm and they were apprehended with the help of some good Samaritans and were handed over to the police.

ASP Tawiah revealed that the police investigations revealed that the black jacket which was left at the crime scene belongs to one of the accused. He noted that after the initial investigations the accused persons were charged with attempted robbery and the case was sent to the Techiman court on July 31, 2014.

He further added that the two accused persons were in court for eight times but were discharged on November 28, 2014 on health grounds. They were discharged by the court with one surety each and bail sum of GH₵10,000 each.

ASP Tawiah noted that based on the facts on the ground, the Techiman Police cannot be accused by Kojo Adjei of granting bail to the accused persons.

The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, DCOP Maxwell Sakipasgo Atingane, is therefore assuring the members of the public that the police would continue to protect the identity of police informants.
