Angry youth at Foase in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District have vandalised a fire engine of Ghana National Fire Service over perceived delayed response to a fire emergency.
A five-bedroom house in the community caught fire and it took a while for the fire fighters to arrive.
The people, who had become incensed, pelted the firefighters, with stones, smashing the windscreen and damaging the right door of the vehicle.
It took police reinforcement from Suntreso, Abuakwa and Atwima-Hwediem to rescue the fire personnel.
Mr Emmanuel Afoakwa, an Assistant Divisional Officer Class One, confirmed the incident to Ghana News Agency said the personnel received the distress call at exactly 1832 hours and quickly responded.
Surprisingly, when the fire fighters arrived, they were met by a hostile crowd, who hit them with stones.
He said owing to the strange and despicable conduct by the people the entire building was completely lost to the fire.
Nana Asare Bediako, District Chief Executive for Atwima-Nwabiagya, one of the four districts, served by the damaged fire engine, has condemned the action of the youth and promised to help fix it.
There should be no place of acts of lawlessness, he stated.
The vehicle serves Atwima-Nwabiagya, Atwima-Mponua, Atwima-Kwanwoma and Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai districts.
