A 25 year old unemployed man from Mankessim in the Central Region was on Monday remanded into prison custody by a Cape Coast Circuit Court for allegedly possessing substance suspected to be Indian hemp and attempting to murder a police officer during his arrest.
�����Francis Wilson�s plea was not taken and would reappear before the court on Monday, January 12, 2015.�
�� �Police Inspector Peter Paul Amoah told the Court presided over by Kofi Seshie Ametewee, that the complainant, DSP David Ashong is the Mfantseman Municipal Police Commander and the accused a resident at Mankessim.
�� �He said on the 23rd��day of December this year, the Mfantseman Police Commander, DSP David Ashong, led a team to conduct a swoop in and around Mankessim during which the accused was spotted smoking a substance believed to be 'wee' behind the Mankessim market.
�� �Inspector Amoah said in an attempt to arrest the accused, he pulled out a jack knife and attempted to stab one police constable Collins Nketia but the police managed to overpower him and arrested him.
�� �Inspector Amoah further told the court that upon his arrest, a search was conducted on him at the spot and a black polythene bag containing some dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found in his pocket.
�� �He was subsequently taken to the Mankessim police station together with the jack knife and the dried leaves for further investigations.
