Former Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. J. B. Dankwah and the former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana and a former Council of State member, Most Rev. Bishop Dr. Asante Antwi are leading residents of Akyem Mmosiaso in the Eastern Region to demonstrate against their Kontihene Nana Asiedu Amoako, Elders of their community and a mining company for destroying their water bodies and farm produce.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of Capital View Hotel in Koforidua who was part of the leaders of the demonstration, the galamsey activities of Kokoase Extraction Ventures, a mining company in the area has destroyed their only two main sources of water leaving them to only drinking mud water.
They are therefore calling on the Minerals Commission and Environmental Protection Agency to halt the activities of the mining company or they will have no other choice than protecting their lands themselves.
