The Dansoman Circuit of the Methodist Church has urged Ghanaians to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the country by incorporating it into their daily activities.
Speaking in Accra during the 25th anniversary of the church last Saturday, the Superintendent Minister of the church, Rt. Rev. John Albert Yaw Adubah, said there was the need for all members of the church and the country at large to develop the attitude of doing things the Ghanaian way.
Rt. Rev. Adubah said the Methodist Church had a strong and unflinching passion to propagate not only the gospel, but also, adopt innovative ways of promoting the values of society.
He said it was in fulfilment of its social responsibility that the church chose a week to portray the culture of the society.
The culture week, he said, afforded the youth the opportunity to learn how some Ghanaian dishes were prepared, adding that all the 19 societies within the Dansoman Circuit participated.
To climax the cultural week, members of the church dressed in beautiful traditional wears for the special thanksgiving service.
The rationale behind the service, Rev. Adugah said, was to encourage the worship of God in the Ghanaian traditional setting.
In his sermon, he encouraged Christians to identify Christ in their traditional settings just as Peter identified Christ as the Messiah in their time.
He advised the youth in the church not to abandon their culture, observing that most of them concentrated more on western traditions rather than their own.
“We realised that when it comes to proverbs, most of our youth cannot give a single one in their local language,” he said.
The chief of Asante Juaben and member of the church, Nana Dr Appiagyei Dankawoso I, charged Ghanaians to imbibe the policy of Operation Feed Yourself instead of having an insatiable taste for foreign products.
