The Ghana Revenue Authority on Monday closed down two shops within the Central Business District of Takoradi for non-payment of taxes over the last three years.
Madam Agnes Adjei Mensah, operator of Cash and Carry Enterprise however became violent and assaulted the tax officials. She would therefore be arraigned soon at the Takoradi Circuit Court.
Mr. Benjamin Arddayfio, a member of the National Revenue Mobilization Task Force who led the exercise, said there was the need to hook all businesses unto the national tax net to grow government's financial base.
He therefore encouraged Ghanaians to become more tax compliant by voluntarily paying their rent, property and other withholding taxes to facilitate development.
Mr. Arddayfio said delinquent tax payers continue to pose challenges to the growth of the economy, adding, "we will continue to educate and conscientize the public on their civic obligation”.
