John Kudalor For IGP

President John Mahama has appointed COP John Kudalor as acting Inspector General of Police.

Until his appointment, COP John Kudalor was Director General of Police Operations, a position he held for more than three years.

Kudalor has a 20-year wealth of experience in the police service and was in charge of monitoring the 2012 general elections.

He replaces the current IGP Mohammed Alhassan who begins his accumulated leave as he prepares to go on retirement. He was appointed IGP in Feburary 2013

The police service has a convention of appointing a new IGP in an acting capacity by ushering out the incumbent with a terminal leave.

Mr Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan was ag. IGP in February 5, 2013 when the then Inspector General of Police Paul Tawiah Quaye was asked to commence his compulsory 90-day terminal leave.

Ahmed Alhassan was later confirmed in June that year.

Jockeying for the position had been reportedly intense. COP Rose Atenga-Bio was tipped to be in the running for the top job. She would have been the second female Superior Police Officer to head the Service after Elizabeth Mills- Robertson.
