Fear gripped four armed robbers who had laid siege to attack market women on the Vieri-Lassie trunk road in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region, upon seeing some members of the regional patrol team.
It was the Wenchiau Market day and the robbers were waiting to pounce on innocent market women, who would use the route to the market. But they abandoned their plan and left behind two motorbikes.
Briefing The Ghanaian Times here, the regional Police Crime Officer,
Superintendent Alhaji Huseini Musah Awinaba said at about 3.30 a.m., on Saturday, the regional police patrol team on routine exercise spotted about four men who had mounted a road block with their motorbikes at a spot on that stretch of the road.
The team decided to approach them to ascertain what was happening. However, the guys upon seeing the patrol vehicle, quickly abandoned their motorbikes and run into the bush.
According to Alhaji Awinaba, the police, upon realising they were robbers, pursued but could not apprehend any of them.
The Crime Officer said one of the motorbikes bore a foreign number.
