Two people died in a road crash that occurred on the Nsuta-Tamso road in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality.
The accident occurred on Sunday, around 1630 hours, when a Man Diesel truck loaded with manganese crushed into a Toyota Pick-Up car in which the deceased’s and another person were traveling.
Mr Edward Kingsley Berdu, 40, the assembly member for Brenuachem Electoral Area, was the only person who survived in the Pick-up and he is currently on admission at the Tarkwa Government Hospital.
The bodies of the deceased Richard Akowuah, 36, and Watara Yakubu, 40, have been deposited at the same hospital morgue for autopsy.
The driver of the truck, Dairy Dawuda, who escaped unhurt, has also been detained by the police.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Honu-Broni, Tarkwa Divisional Commander of Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.
He said Richard was driving the Toyota Pick-up with Watara and Edward on board heading towards Nsuta from Tamso.
ASP Honu-Broni said on reaching the Nsuta hospital area, the deceased driver allegedly veered into the lane of the truck which was being driven by Dawuda.
The truck driver, on seeing the deceased in his lane, swerved into the opposite lane, resulting in the crash.
The MTTU commander said Richard died on the spot while Watara and Edward, who sustained serious injuries, were taken to the hospital for treatment, but Watara unfortunately died shortly after arrival.
