The Reverend Mawuli Dzidula Agudogo, Accra Presbytery Chairman of Global Evangelical Church, has called on churches to use the pulpit to preach peace and unity ahead of election 2016.

He also urged the churches to organise platforms where leaders of all the political parties would be brought together and deliberate on issues affecting the development of the nation.

This, he said, would send signal to the followers of the political parties that after all their leaders are not enemies.

Rev Agudogo made the call at the end of this year’s Prayer Festival of the Accra Presbytery of the Global Evangelical Church at Oyibi in the K pone-Katamanso District of the Greater Accra Region.

About 3,000 worshippers drawn from Accra and Tema branches of the church attended the festival which was on the theme “Thy Kingdom Come.”

It was aimed at building the capacity of the participants and also bringing the members together and to rededicate themselves to the Lord for the coming year and pray for peace ahead of election 2016.

On the election 2016, Rev Agudogo urged the politicians to refrain from using abusive languages which he said do not augur well for the country’s democracy.

He tasked them to organise their campaigns peacefully devoid of insults “since Ghana belongs to all of us”.

The Accra Presbytery Chairman also asked them to use the youth for national development instead of inciting them to cause chaos in the country.

He appealed to the electorate to cast their votes in a peaceful manner and also vote for leaders who have the development of the nation at heart.

Rev Agudogo charged religious leaders to desist from acts, which tend to bring the clergy into disrepute.

He said the Presbytery had initiated a number of projects including the provision of a hostel, a manse and an office complex, which would enhance the effective propagation of the gospel.
