A 60- year- old mason, who invoked a traditional curse on a woman, allegedly leading to her death has been punished by the Sweduruman council of chiefs.

The man, Kow Amenyi, popularly known as Flash, was said to have had a confrontation with the deceased, Ekua Akyirem at Ankyease, a suburb of Agona Swedru about six months ago and afterwards invoked curses on the deceased with eggs.

He was said to have hit one egg on the ground and cooked two other eggs and ate them while invoking the curse.
Information gathered by The Mirror indicated that  following  a misunderstanding between the two, the deceased got ill and unfortunately passed on three months later.

The matter was quickly reported to the Council of Chiefs since there was a ban on the invocation of curses in the entire Swedru township. The council subsequently summoned Amenyi to appear before it to answer for his actions.

But after several attempts, Amenyi refused to appear before the council and the necessary rituals were performed to pave way for the deceased to be buried with the support of her family.
However, the accused later rescinded his decision and  appeared before the council to explain his actions.

Appearance
At the council’s meeting last Thursday, the sober-looking Amenyi apologised for his actions and was fined GH¢500, as well as three bottles of Schnapps and two sheep.

A ritual, led by Okyeame Senni, was performed to ask for forgiveness from the gods for the actions of Amenyi.
One of the sheep was slaughtered and the blood spilled to appease the gods.

Counsel

The Chief of Agona Swedru, Ogidigram Okrupi Nana Kobina Botwe II condemned Amenyi’s action, saying that in this era of development, it was totally unacceptable for one to resort to curses when misunderstandings occurred.
He, therefore, urged all residents to use dialogue to settle their differences.
