After going into hiding for the past two years, the Madina Police have finally apprehended a 35-year-old wielder who allegedly defiled a 13-year-old girl at Pantang Village which rendered her paralyzed.

The victim (name withheld) is currently bedridden after her parents claimed that they do not have the financial strength to continue her physiotherapy treatment at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

The suspect, identified as Paul Ademan, went into hiding at a village called Abomosu in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region after the act.

He was finally arrested on Monday, January 4, 2016 by the Madina Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVOSU) with the help of the Abomosu Police.

Girl Was Gagged

Narrating her ordeal to DAILY GUIDE, the victim, who was a primary five pupil of Pantang Presby School, said she was defiled on December 2013 by the suspect.

The suspect was also living with her wife and three children in the same vicinity and is popularly called Uncle Paul by neighbors.

“Somewhere in December, 2013, I was at home around 7am when the wife of uncle Paul sent me to her house to tell her daughter Dorothy that they should not leave for school since it was cloudy.”

The victim said her mother left the house to sell doughnuts, leaving herself and two other siblings including a 10-month old baby girl in the house.

.
She said when she got to the house of Uncle Paul to deliver the message, Dorothy was not around leaving only Uncle Paul, who was then in the bathhouse.

“It had started raining heavily by then and so Uncle Paul, upon his return from the bathhouse, asked me to enter the wooden kiosk where he sleeps at times.

At that time, my little sister whom I was carrying at my back was fast asleep so Uncle Paul spread a piece of cloth on the floor for me to lay my sister and so I also laid beside her to rest but unfortunately I fell asleep.

The victim said she felt someone lying on top of her and a sharp pain in her abdomen and when she immediately woke up, she realized that her mouth had been tied.

“Uncle Paul slept with me and after I had freed myself and wanted to shout for help, he pulled out a knife and threatened to kill me if I dare tell anybody. For fear that I would be killed, the victim said, she kept it a secret until her condition got worse.

Mother reports to police

Meanwhile, Vida Ahinsa, mother of the victim, told the paper at their single-room apartment at Pantang village that the victim never told her of her situation when her illness started.

“One day, I saw my daughter limping on the right leg and when I asked she told me that she fell while on her way to sell doughnuts.

“I treated her for sometime and when the situation worsened, I took her to the hospital. One day while massaging her leg, he realized that her panty was very wet and a foul scent emanating from her vagina and questioned her but she kept quiet so I thought she had contracted candidiases.

Day by day, the scent became intense and so I had to take her to the nearest hospital for treatment but when the doctors questioned her, she refused to tell them the truth until one day she confessed to the wife of our church pastor.

With the help of our pastor’s wife, we had a doctor from 37 Military Hospital who attended to her and further gave us a letter to report to the police. Upon hearing the news, the suspect, who often visited the house to check on the victim, went into hiding and was never seen again.

When the commanding officer in charge of the Madina branch of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit, DSP Christine Srofenyo was contacted, she said suspect Paul Ademan was apprehended upon a tip-off by the police in the Eastern Region.

Statement of the suspect had been taken and so police have provisionally charged him for defilement and he would be taken to court on Monday, January 11, 2016 to face prosecution.
