Nyamesomyede, a predominantly farming community near the gold mining town of Obuasi, has been enveloped in complete shock and disbelief over the tragic death of a 40-year cocoa farmer.

The deceased, Kwaku Afari, was caught in the chest by the horn of an antelope, he was struggling to kill and he died moments later from his injury.

The incident happened on last Saturday, January 09.

A member of the bereaved family, who declined to be identified, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the deceased had gone to the farm with the wife and grandson together with his dog, to break cocoa pods he had harvested.

Whilst on the farm, the dog was seen struggling to overcome an antelope, it had chased out of a dense vegetation nearby.
Afari rushed to the aid of his dog and that was when he run into trouble. He got hurt in the chest by the horn of the animal.

He managed to kill the animal but collapsed later and died, whilst being carried to the hospital.
The body had since been deposited at the Obuasi Government Hospital.

Meanwhile, the carcass of the antelope had been buried by the people in the community - they would not allow anybody to eat the meat, out of the fear of the unknown.
