Water supply to Winneba and its environs is expected to increase to three million gallons daily when work on the Winneba Water Supply Expansion project is completed in April.

The 370,000 residents of the area would benefit from the 35 million dollar project which was started last year.
This was made known when Mr Samuel Yaw Adusei, the Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, and other officials from the Ministry as they inspected the project among others in the region.

The other projects include the Essakyir Water Supply project which is nearing completion and the Cape Coast Water Supply Project at Abrem Agona and Brimsu.

Mr Adusei expressed optimism that the Winneba project would be completed and handed over on time.

He said all ongoing water projects in other parts of the country were in line with Government’s aim to achieve 100 percent water coverage by the year 2025.

Mr Asomani Nyarko, Project Manager of the Winneba Project, said apart from the extension of the distribution network, the existing treatment plant would be rehabilitated.

He said a dispute between Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and Forestry Commission over a parcel of land was posing a challenge and the Deputy Minister promised to ensure that the issue would be resolved amicably.

The 20 million Euro Cape Coast Water Project would primarily connect the Sekyere Hemang and Brimsu water systems to improve water supply to Cape Coast and its environs.

Mr Adusei, in response to efforts being made to address power outages interrupting water supply from Brimsu to Cape Coast and its environs, told the press that the GWCL and the Ministry were working to ensure regular power supply to all the various plants.
