Migration is part of human life and as part of efforts to reduce the life threatening situations that can bedevil such an expedition, the Ghana Association of Private Employers Agency (GHAPEA) have warned Ghanaians to use the right channels when preparing to seek greener pastures in other countries.

Rev. Dr. Ocansey, a celebrated job creation expert and CEO of SOS Labour (a member of GHAPEA) has warned Ghanaians with intentions to travel outside the country to always contact bodies approved and given license by government to facilitate the process.

According to her members of GHAPEA have been given license by government not only to facilitate travelling processes but also, to ensure persons sent outside the shores of Ghana are given decent works to do.

“There are several issues attached to migration and the frustration some Ghanaians pass through informed government to give us (GHAPEA) the license to operate.

Some travelling agencies are only interested in airlifting Ghanaians to another country and the story ends there. They don’t care much about one’s life and the tribulation they face afterwards”, she told Peacefmonline.com.

She entreated Ghanaians not to engage the services of ‘connection men’ or unlicensed travelling operators but rather, to look out for members of GHAPEA.

“As an agency with license to help you travel, GHAPEA ensures that the people who help in travelling are interviewed and given offer letters”, she added.

Activities of GHAPEA are profitable to the traveler, government and above all the national economy, claims Alhaji Saeed Shereef, Vice President of GHAPEA

According to him, he migrated from Ghana some 36years ago and returned home with better education and enough money for his business startup.

He advised Ghanaians who want to work outside the country to do that in a diligent way and not to use channels that could make them perish in the Mediterranean Sea or get buried in an unknown desert. Migration in his view has come to stay with man and our younger folks must be educated on ways to migrate without risking their lives.

Acting Chief Labour Officer, Eugene N. Korletey also tells Peacefmonline.com that government has now liberalized the system and for this reason, the Labour Department together with the private employment agencies  are responsible for recruiting job applicants.

Mr. Eugene N. Korletey explained that when it comes to labour migration across the borders of Ghana, the private employment agencies who are registered internationally play a major role.

“They contract jobs opportunities outside Ghana and conduct their business in various dimensions. We have some registered to operate locally and others who operate both internationally and locally”, he said.
