A 33-year-old outsourced worker of Stanbic Bank Ghana has been declared wanted by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly defrauding scores of customers of the bank of more than GH¢900,000.
The suspect, Martha Amakye, who is said to be an outsourced worker from Noswall Management Service, a recruitment agency, absconded after the Financial Crime Control Unit of the bank found out she was involved in some fraudulent transactions.
Amakye, a personal solution consultant or sales officer at the Tema Community One branch of Stanbic Bank, is said to have collected various sums of money from customers of the bank between 2015 and 2016 on the pretext of investing it in fixed deposits.
She is alleged to have promised the customers interest rate of between 18 and 20 per cent per month
According to sources, Amakye, without the consent of the management of the bank, contacted the victims and many other customers and lured them with the high interest rate on their investment.
Investigations
Preliminary investigations conducted by the Commercial Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service and the Financial Crime Control Unit of the bank, according to the sources, had revealed that most of the victims paid their funds meant for the investment to Amakye in the banking hall, while others gave the money to her outside the bank.
After collecting the money, Amakye is said to have issued the victims with copies of suspected fake deposit slips.
At a point, the sources said, she allegedly paid what she claimed to be interest accrued from the fixed deposit investment to some of the initial investors but retained the principal amounts, with the explanation that the amount would be reinvested.
Subsequently, more customers from other branches of the bank trooped to the Tema Community One branch of the bank on hearing about the juicy package.
The sources said the bank had so far received a number of complaints from victims whose money had been collected by Amakye.
Amakye’s pictures have been posted on Stanbic Bank’s Facebook timeline, with a message that urged anyone with information on her whereabouts to call the police.
Customers have also been encouraged to always make payments directly to tellers and demand receipts or stamped payment slips for all payments.

You guys don't know how big guys use inexperienced people to achieve their ***barred word*** interests and later either frame them up or help them to escape and then call in the police to investigate. How can an outsourced employee be allowed to run such a portfolio without senior oversight, it simply do not happen in established financial institutions. there are several deals at banks where the big guys use the small ones to front for them. A lot of these stories will come up soon with the change in government as senior bankers try to loot or cover their failed gambles. Let there be a serious audit and investigation of this case. Even if it's true, it means someone was sleeping on the Job and is equally culpable
Outsourcing outsourcing yea! hmmm. Employ and train and retain.
It is time for the government to regulate this outsourcing companies, you should take at most 10% of the amount as contractual fees the cheating is too much inthis difficult times
Nana should form a better labour commission. Expecially the GMWU
I am shocked this lady took only GH900,000. She should have taken all that money in that bank. These contract staff are mostly paid not more than GH500 and they don't get health insurance, bonus, T&T and all the goodies that regular staff enjoy. they treat them as slaves whilst the regular staff pay themselves outrageous salaries and bonuses. The bank deserves more than these few cedis.
Nana Addo sleeping mataata incapable wadaa will pay it all. Including the dkm and begoro scam. Change has come. Nana aba
You are right. The HR Team of Barclays Ghana is full of unreasonable people who are cheats with F00OLISH decisions. They use people and just dump them. Why not absorb the workers having served 5 years but jut get rid of them. I don't know what the so called Labour Commission of Ghana is doing.
The Banks are cheats! Barclays Ghana is now getting rid of all the Agency/Contract Employees who have served 5 years or more so that they can get in young and desperate inexperience ones whom they can cheat by giving them 500 to 700 Ghana Cedis a month. To get rid of workers who have served 5 yrs with some experience for inexperience ones and expect your services to get better is F00OLISH of a decision of whoever is in charge. But that is the Blackman, they want to get all the fat salaries and the bonuses at the top so they don't think about anyone. Fire burn You all !!! Forgetting that they will die.
