Ghanaians have been advised to put premium on food safety; going the extra mile to make sure that the food they eat is free from any bacterial infection.
Mr. David Asah-Kissiedu, Deputy Chief Dietician, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), expressed deep worry about the situation where many tended to overlook proper hygiene at the various stages of food preparation.
That, he warned, was dangerous and could result in food poisoning.
The dietician gave the advice when he spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Kumasi.
Mr. Asah-Kissiedu asked that nobody should discount the assertion by Pastor Mensah Otabil, General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), that “fufu” was killing Africans, adding that could be true, when it was not prepared under hygienic conditions.
The pestle and mortar which are used for pounding of the ‘fufu’ are often not kept well, leaving insects on them.
He made reference to instances where people used mortars that had developed cracks, with rotten food stuck in them, rendering the fresh ‘fufu’ unwholesome.
Mr. Asah- Kissiedu highlighted the need to thoroughly wash the pestle and mortar with warm water, before and after their use.
These should also be covered with clean cloth or polythene bags to keep away flies and other insects.
Cracked pestles and mortars should also be replaced, he added.
He indicated that the ‘fufu’ pounding machine was equally not safe as the metals used in grinding, rub against each other, and particles of the metals get into the food.
He called for research to be conducted to ascertain the type of metals used to help prevent cancers.
He urged the people to take to increasing eating of vegetables and beans.

every food has some bacteria in there no matter how it is prepared. There are countless nr. of bacteria sitting in the stomach even before the food get in there. Our fathers ate fufu with their hands but lived longer than we are. Don't blame modern day hard drug-prone addiction/culture and the do anything to get rich attitude on fufu.
Should we stop eating bread too? The dough is kneaded in between a metal bowl or mill and another metal mixer. The fufu machine is just like the flour mill used to mix the dough. I believe that once it is hygienic, we can eat the food. Fufu pounded at home can be clean if we ensure that the utensils are well cleaned.
Eat whatever you want to eat just be sure its prepared under hygienic conditions
What food will not kill if it is not prepared under proper hygienic conditions? That is an obvious advice!! You guys shouldn't single out fufuo.
So these people are saying that they did not eat fufu in their childhood. Fufu is good, we will not die. We call it as made in Ghana goods.
They are not saying don't eat fufu. What they say is whatever you eat make sure is hygienically prepared. They are using the fufu as an example becos the tools used in preparing are seldom kept neat
4bcos of what you will eat you shouldnt take advice? zak hmmm my fellow black man
So,now what should we eat?
