Gender Minister Otiko Afisa Djaba has ordered a probe into the inhumane treatment inflicted on a Ghanaian worker at the Abelenkpe branch of Marwako by a Lebanese supervisor.
Otiko who was accompanied by the Labour minister on a visit to the premises of Marwako Tuesday said she has given the labour ministry a week to submit their report on the incident.
A kitchen staffer, Evelyn Boakye, who works at the Abelenkpe branch of Marwako Fast Food Limited, had her face dipped into pepper paste by her boss Jihad Chaaban last week.
The treatment has attracted widespread condemnation, especially on social media, leading to the creation of a hashtag #boycottMarwako.
Meanwhile, the expatriate has in a statement apologized to Ghanaians for his conduct and asked for forgiveness.
“I wish personally to sincerely apologise to you for the incident on the night of 26 February 2017 at our Ablenkpe place of work,” he said in a letter.
“True to God, all I sought to do was to point you to something I found wrong. I admit I was angry a bit at the moment and saw you panic and accidentally resulting in the pepper splashing onto your face.I very sincerely regret the incident and apologise to you,” he said in a statement.

The supervisor should be deported back to his ***barred word*** country.so that he can dip his family members face into paper . ***barred word*** man.
What evidence do u need. The guy himself has even come out to apologize. If it was ur family member or a relative, you will not say that. Come to Canada here and fall down at a restaurant where they did not mob water on the floor. And to put someone face in blinded pepper. Is he ok? Is he not taking advantage of Ghanaians that we need to stand for ourselves? Pls give me a break and let the law deal with him. Some of u are the reasons why this foreigners take advantage of us/
The management of MARWARKO should sign a bond to treat their staff in a humane way and with respect. As for that JIHAD he should be deporated immediately. Otherwise the restaurant should be close down. Period.
This is wickedness and gross disrespect to her. He has to be fined a huge amount of money to serve as a deterrent to others who are secretly doing that.
What is the evidence? The girl in question only reported the case three days after the incidence. This may be cooked. If she was indeed peppered, why didn't she report earlier to the police. Was she the only worker in the kitchen at the time? Why are other colleagues not corroborating the story? More questions than answers. It's always easy for foreigners to be targeted this way. Anyway, it may be true or may not be true, proper investigation must be conducted into the matter not to victimize the innocent.
... this is Ghana,. no cover ups please. no excuses at all. no delay in exacting just punishment. how can this happen in the land of our birth,. it could be worse in the the land is not of
Why will ur employee panic if there was a cordial relationship between u too, u people want to take us for granted even in our own country. He must face the law fo atleast the rest to learn and know that we have laws governing our country
The Ghanaian supervisor there is claiming the incident is being exagerated so why then is the lebanese apologising. That Ghanaian man Bernard whatever must be dealt with for defending this Jihad for his act, i wont be surprised he was promised pay increament or high position just to defend the foreigner against his fellow Ghanaian. He must be deported cos we cant suffer in their countries as well as in ours too
You dare NOT do this to any foreigner in his home country. But Ghana ...i dont know what has become of us?
you can say that again my sister...our hometown too you want to come and kill us here..Ghana stand up for your own wai
