Concerned Graduates of University for Development Studies (UDS), Wa Campus has kicked against the decision of the Management of UDS to hold a joint graduation ceremony for all its students in Tamale.
A statement issued by the Concerned Graduates of UDS, Wa Campus signed by Ampofo Ofori Samuel, its Convenor, and copied to GNA in Tamale on Saturday, said the decision to hold a joint graduation ceremony for all its students in Tamale presented a lot of inconvenience and further costs to the graduates, who have already made arrangements to attend the ceremony at the Wa Campus.
UDS has for some time been holding separate graduation ceremonies where students, who completed their studies at Wa Campus, and Navrongo Campus, graduate at their campuses whiles those at Tamale and Nyankpala Campuses graduate at the Tamale Campus.
UDS planned to hold graduation ceremony for the Wa Campus on November 17, this year but suddenly changed this decision and asked those to graduate at the Wa Campus to rather join the rest of the graduates at the Tamale Campus for the graduation on November 10, this year.
The statement said “On the issue of rescheduling the venue to Tamale to host all campuses, we feel this is a form of disrespect to the entire congregation without giving notice earlier.
They have not even given us a tangible reason for the impromptu change in venue, which we believe is totally unacceptable.”
It said “preparations have already been made as to where we will be accommodated together with our families without much hustle. Our friends were joining other students on campus to free up some rooms for our accommodation. Now the changes mean we all struggle to book for hotels and guest houses around Tamale for ourselves and our families on top of the huge amount of money taken as graduation fees.”
The statement said “we want to tell the administrators that we graduates from Wa campus want the ceremony done on our campus to reduce our stress, hustle for accommodation, and hustle for graduation gowns that are not even enough.”
It warned that “if our plea is not considered, UDS will experience its first graduation boycott.”
GNA spoke to a member of the Management of UDS, who confirmed the decision and said the Management of UDS was making efforts to engage the students to understand the situation and attend the graduation ceremony in Tamale.

All we plead for right now is to have our Graduation on our campus (Wa Campus). The President Can go grace the Graduation at Tamale Campus, after all this won’t be the first time not having the President on the campus of Wa during our Graduation!
Mr. President please delegate someone to wa campus to do whatever you want to do. the economy is hard and the annual Avenue for business men in Wa to make some money for Christmas is being snatched from them. I think a delegate can be sent to Wa on the president’s behalf to deliver the speech on his behalf.
Why did the president says it should be in tamale not wa because students in wa campus are more than any other campus rough is enough
We are ok if the president doesn’t come for our graduation. After all he coming won’t increase or decrease my GPA. This one koraaa what be en problem? Nana addo, are u our mate? Are u our course rep? Are u SRC President? If No. then why u want graduate with us? Please stay in Accra try n manage the economy, catch the dollar and leave us alone. We beg U come koraaa, u go talk big big English and promises, nothing better go come out of am.
Wa Campus to BOYCOTT Graduation Ceremony in TAMALE . We Schooled in Wa, Had and Passed all exams in Wa. So we need our Graduation in WA. Period!!!
We Can't take this any longer we've had issues from the very day we were admitted into the school why should it be So when we are graduating we ain't taking this at all #udsgraduationboycott
The reason the school authority is giving for the sudden change of venue is unfortunate. 'The President will be coming!!! '.. when he comes, he will sleep comfortably in a 6 star hotel out of tax payers money... Even his third deputy driver will sleep in a very comfortable hotel plus fat allowances.... Why should poor students suffer like this? Where do they expect us to sleep? I bet you...even if all Wa campus graduands want to attend the ceremony, the school can't get enough gowns for us all...
The worst is yet to happen if the venue is no change back to Wa campus Enough is enough
#udsboycottgraduation🔥🔥🔥 If the management doesn’t hear our plea the worst shall happen on that faithfull day.
We still don’t have our names on the the graduation list .how can we go to school four years and can’t graduate. Whiles we don’t even we owe the school a penny.. Our elders please help us fight for our right . Our voice must be heard. We are in a democratic land not an autocratic.
