Concerned Graduates of University for Development Studies (UDS), Wa Campus has kicked against the decision of the Management of UDS to hold a joint graduation ceremony for all its students in Tamale.
A statement issued by the Concerned Graduates of UDS, Wa Campus signed by Ampofo Ofori Samuel, its Convenor, and copied to GNA in Tamale on Saturday, said the decision to hold a joint graduation ceremony for all its students in Tamale presented a lot of inconvenience and further costs to the graduates, who have already made arrangements to attend the ceremony at the Wa Campus.
UDS has for some time been holding separate graduation ceremonies where students, who completed their studies at Wa Campus, and Navrongo Campus, graduate at their campuses whiles those at Tamale and Nyankpala Campuses graduate at the Tamale Campus.
UDS planned to hold graduation ceremony for the Wa Campus on November 17, this year but suddenly changed this decision and asked those to graduate at the Wa Campus to rather join the rest of the graduates at the Tamale Campus for the graduation on November 10, this year.
The statement said “On the issue of rescheduling the venue to Tamale to host all campuses, we feel this is a form of disrespect to the entire congregation without giving notice earlier.
They have not even given us a tangible reason for the impromptu change in venue, which we believe is totally unacceptable.”
It said “preparations have already been made as to where we will be accommodated together with our families without much hustle. Our friends were joining other students on campus to free up some rooms for our accommodation. Now the changes mean we all struggle to book for hotels and guest houses around Tamale for ourselves and our families on top of the huge amount of money taken as graduation fees.”
The statement said “we want to tell the administrators that we graduates from Wa campus want the ceremony done on our campus to reduce our stress, hustle for accommodation, and hustle for graduation gowns that are not even enough.”
It warned that “if our plea is not considered, UDS will experience its first graduation boycott.”
GNA spoke to a member of the Management of UDS, who confirmed the decision and said the Management of UDS was making efforts to engage the students to understand the situation and attend the graduation ceremony in Tamale.

Uds dnt have much infrastructure so when we start to do this demo the small things there we spoil them all
School management have disrespected us enough. I’ve been in this school for 4 years some 5 years n school management have shown us nothing but disrespect and disregard for our welfare. We encounter almost every new semester problems concerning our results and course registration. God being so good, we’ve been able to keep ur with ur incompetences and disrespect. On our graduation too y’all want to show us the greatest disrespect in UDS history by changing the venue in just a week to the day of graduation. I for instance, I’ve booked 3 hotel rooms for my family which is 250gh for each room. We all know that money paid to book rooms are not refundable so now where are u expecting me to get my 750gh from? Please the economy hard already abeg make y’all no stress us.
Management treats its students like a bunch of kindergarten kids yet teach and expect us to practice decentralization 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️ We won’t gooooo
No tamale graduation for Wa students that is all
To his Excellency the President of our beloved country and the management of our dear school UDS.. we (students of Wa campus) humbly plead that you listen to our cry and allow us graduate on our very own Campus.. we have made all preparations to graduate on our campus campus including booking hotel rooms and ordering food from fine restaurants in Wa... we hambly plead
Didn't the management of UDS learn anything from the KNUST incident, they should no by now that is important to hear what the students ate saying and reconsider their decision.
If management think about the welfare of The students they wouldn’t have make such a decision all in the name of the president coming to our shcool ,I think the Vice President is there ,speaker of parliament and other prominent people in govt who can attend the ceremony Buh for we the Wa students we can’t go to tamale for our graduation.there many inconveniences ,stress ,and above all we. Have to clear ourselves, how do managemt want us to do this all
Why will this happen and where will my families and friends who are going to support me will sleep because I don’t know anybody in tamale
We want to have our own graduation period. Changes without reasons, that's bogus. If not Wa then no graduation.
We want our graduation in wa not tamale. How can we be in wa for 4 years and go to tamale for our graduation just to meet the president no this will not happen. The president can go to tamale and we will have ours in wa. Thank you
