Concerned Graduates of University for Development Studies (UDS), Wa Campus has kicked against the decision of the Management of UDS to hold a joint graduation ceremony for all its students in Tamale.
A statement issued by the Concerned Graduates of UDS, Wa Campus signed by Ampofo Ofori Samuel, its Convenor, and copied to GNA in Tamale on Saturday, said the decision to hold a joint graduation ceremony for all its students in Tamale presented a lot of inconvenience and further costs to the graduates, who have already made arrangements to attend the ceremony at the Wa Campus.
UDS has for some time been holding separate graduation ceremonies where students, who completed their studies at Wa Campus, and Navrongo Campus, graduate at their campuses whiles those at Tamale and Nyankpala Campuses graduate at the Tamale Campus.
UDS planned to hold graduation ceremony for the Wa Campus on November 17, this year but suddenly changed this decision and asked those to graduate at the Wa Campus to rather join the rest of the graduates at the Tamale Campus for the graduation on November 10, this year.
The statement said “On the issue of rescheduling the venue to Tamale to host all campuses, we feel this is a form of disrespect to the entire congregation without giving notice earlier.
They have not even given us a tangible reason for the impromptu change in venue, which we believe is totally unacceptable.”
It said “preparations have already been made as to where we will be accommodated together with our families without much hustle. Our friends were joining other students on campus to free up some rooms for our accommodation. Now the changes mean we all struggle to book for hotels and guest houses around Tamale for ourselves and our families on top of the huge amount of money taken as graduation fees.”
The statement said “we want to tell the administrators that we graduates from Wa campus want the ceremony done on our campus to reduce our stress, hustle for accommodation, and hustle for graduation gowns that are not even enough.”
It warned that “if our plea is not considered, UDS will experience its first graduation boycott.”
GNA spoke to a member of the Management of UDS, who confirmed the decision and said the Management of UDS was making efforts to engage the students to understand the situation and attend the graduation ceremony in Tamale.

Bih on Nov 4, 18:50 Uds Graduation BOYCOTT Thank you for making the world hear about us.The authorities from day one have been imposing everything on us without considering students welfare.Uds has always been over riding over NCTE directives about flat rate school fees and we wonder if it's a crime to go to UDS or propabably we ain't Ghanaians and can't enjoy same right and previlleges other tertiary students are enjoying,As we speaking there is a problem with our graduation list and some students can't find their names and the authorities are still not ready to tell them why,Is it that they owe school fees or its about exams .some students are not even yet done clearing themselves and they will have to go to wa to clear themselves and later go to tamale for the ceremony And no one care about all these stress. Some of us have already booked hotels for ourselves and our families and this money is going to be a waste if we are to go to tamale All we hearing about this change is that The president of the country wants to be at the ceremony and can't fly to wa because the airstrip isn't in good condition but he was able to come there for campaign with his team but he can't come now after gaining power .time will tell But our humble question is why must we suffer to come to tamale when he's responsible to put the wa airstrip in good use .Ghana for us. Mr President Do you even care about us ?
Adding to that the graduation list have several errors but management seem not to care and want to go ahead with the ceremony.
They can't treat us like kids and impose things on us.... We need to our graduation back on way campus
This is utterly embarrassing, how can management take such a decision without considering its effects on the stakeholders it matters most to? We want a seperate ceremony to be staged in Wa, period! To hell with their 'nonfa'reasons!
They must be joking. How can you tell the person with the HIGHEST GPA she wont have her name in the year book without any tangible reasons. What sort of school is this. We've had it to our chest we wont take this anymore. Nobody is going to suffer for anyone's mistake. Do your work well for you are being paid for it
I complete Uds Wa campus to be precise so why then do i go for my graduation ceremony at Tamale campus....hmmmm this is not fair.Anything done in Rome stays in Rome. Thanks
Management of UDS has to take this serious please. We have been suffering ever since we came to UDS and now that are done with school too you want to stretch us again. What have we done wrong just let’s us know and we promise to go back and correct that. I personally don’t know anybody in TAMALE and you want me to come and have my graduation whiles you know much money will be spent after the few days we will spend on the land of TAMALE just because we don’t know anyone so definitely we will have to lodge in a hotel which you all know the prices (Too High). Please and please this no issue, just let us have our GRADUATION on our campus since some of us won’t have our family members following us to WA l. The only family we have is our friends who happens to be the CONTINUING STUDENTS at WA CAMPUS. They will best cheer us up wen we come for our Graduation. Thank You
Management please hear our plea and work on this . At this point some of us don’t still have our names in the graduation list.. please hear us and let’s have our graduation at the same land we schooled. #udsgraduationboycott#
They just don’t respect the student body. How can a school who has been teaching development not involve its students in decision making?
Management please this not a matter of bringing any mechanisms here or efforts.we want to have our graduation at our campus
