All Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region are to receive one free meal and water as lunch for the next five days.
Each of the 389 students in the district will today, June 10 enjoy rice and beans.
District Chief Executive, Elliasu Adams, who announced this at the Daboya District Assembly Junior High School, explained the provision of meals and water for the candidates is to check late reporting from lunch break.
“The assembly has decided to serve you each with one hot meal for the five days period that you will be writing your examination” he told the candidates at the start of the exams which is being done nationwide.
The announcement, which was welcomed by the candidates, will now save some parents in the area the trouble of having to carry food from their homes to their wards at the various examination centres as has been the norm in the past.
“The provision of meals for the candidates is to allow the candidates remain within the circumference of the examination because we used to record late reporting usually for second papers and the reason given had been that candidates go to buy food from the Daboya township”, Mr Adam said.
He said 100 bags of sachet water have been made available at the various examination centres to serve the candidates, teachers and invigilators.
The DCE said these when he interacted with candidates, teachers, invigilators, supervisor, and examination officials few hours to the start of the examination Monday morning.
A total of 389 candidates have been registered by the West African Examination Center to sit for the 2019 examination in the North Gonja District. Of the number are 185 girls and 204 boys from 11 junior high schools in the district.
The candidates have been spread across 8 halls, the largest.
A total of 13 invigilators with one external invigilator are supervising the examination today.
Each candidate was thoroughly search before being allowed entry into their various exams halls. Candidates wearing canvas and sneakers were made to take them off for inspection.
