Following reports of an attempted coup by three persons targeted at the Presidency and to create instability in the country, Ghanaians in a rather unusual way have cast doubts about the alleged attack.
Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, on September 23 in a press release revealed how State Agencies; BNI, CID and Defence Intelligence, detected and foiled a planned attack on the Jubilee House leading to the retrieval of several arms, explosive devices and ammunition from Alajo and Bawaleshie in Accra and Dodowa respectfully.
Reacting to the issue on social media, Ghanaians believe the announcement made over the alleged coup is a ploy by the Akufo-Addo-led government to divert citizens’ attention from issues that has bedevilled the country over the past few weeks.
Mocking Oppong Nkrumah, some social media users indicated how ‘rushed’ the announcement was, questioning why he took it upon himself to break the news when he barely has any expertise on security issues in the country.
Others just made mockery of the Information Minister’s seriousness, suggesting the weapons retrieved were domestic tools.
