Standard Chartered Bank marked this year’s International Customer Service Week with a training programme for nurses at the Opthalmic Nursing School at Korle Bu in Accra.

The purpose was to equip the nurses with all the requisite knowledge on customer service to improve client health provider relationship.

The initiative is under the bank’s new community investment approach called Futuremakers which aims to empower young people with employability, education and entrepreneurship opportunities.

This year’s Customer Service Week celebrated across the world served as a period in which many customer-oriented institutions, especially in the serviced industry, appreciated their customers and staff.

The staff of Standard Chartered shared with the nurses the customer service tips that have made the bank the preferred choice of many, especially in Ghana.

Head of Retail Banking, Ebehijie Momoh who led the team was excited at the nurse's eagerness and zeal to learn.

She stressed that at the bedrock of customer service is quality medical care delivered hence the need to equip the young nurses as part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility.

“All around the world people recognize the fact that customer is key; without the customer, you don’t have a business so as part of celebrating the customer service week, we want to share with the students the customer service tips that has worked for us” Madam Momoh stated.

The StanChart head of Retail underscored the need for nurses to have knowledge on customer service and customer experience since most clients placed much premium on attitudes of health professionals to plan their future visits and use of that health facility.

“We are very excited about the fact that we can impact young people which will differentiate them from their peers” Madam Momoh added.

For her part, Principal of the Opthalmic Nursing School, Stella Antwi Boasiako described the training programme by Standard Chartered bank as timely.

“This training by Stanchart is very important because it will help the nurses know how to treat their patients” she noted.

The Principal said plans are far advanced to include customer care in their curriculum when it is reviewed to improve their public image.

Stella Antwi Boasiako thanked the bank for the laudable initiative which will address the negative mindset people have about nurses.
