Management of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has debunked rumours that some GHS 147million has been lost to the fire that engulfed its Head Office Annex.
Addressing the press on Sunday, GRA Board Chairman, Professor Stephen Adei, indicated that the information was untrue. Prof Adei also gave the assurance that important documents have been secured since the Authority has a safe backup system in place.
The GRA Board Chair also said the fire should not prevent citizens from transacting businesses with other branches of GRA.
The fire started at the GRA Head Office Annex on Sunday, December 1, 2019, at the top floor offices of the multipurpose building.
Eyewitnesses say thick black smoke began to fill the clear Sunday sky around 9:00 am before the raging flames became visible.
The fire hit the Archives Department of the GRA which has a lot of combustible materials, Joy News has learned.
