Parliament of Ghana is to install temperature monitors to check Members of Parliament and visitors for the deadly Coronavirus.
The move forms part of measures by the House of Legislature to prevent MPs, staff, and visitors from contracting the disease.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Prof. Mike Aaron Oquaye on Thursday morning cautioned MPs against exchanging handshakes and disclosed that hand sanitizers have been installed all over the House.
He encouraged the Legislators to strictly adhere to the precautionary measures put in place.
“The transmission has been identified particularly with handshaking it is very serious. We don’t want any problems for ourselves in this country of ours. Honorable members are advised that sanitizers have been installed at vantage points in the House. Please take advantage and keep on sanitizing your hands, we are all advised accordingly,” the Speaker said.
The Minority Leader, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak proposed the installation of temperature monitors as additional measures. The Speaker directed the Clerk to act accordingly.
“The temperature recorder because of the number of visitors that we receive in this House if it could be possible for it to be used at vantage entry to check the temperature of people visiting us. Mr. Speaker, I believe that this could even be done to members too. Each morning when we come and as we enter the chamber our temperatures are checked so that we’ll avoid a situation where infections will be spreading within the Chamber, ” Hon. Muntaka stated.
