The Guinean who tested positive for COVID-19 but subsequently escaped from a quarantine facility at Tamale in the Northern Region has been arrested.
The patient was arrested in Accra.
Deputy Health Minister, Alexander Abban on The Big Issue on Saturday said while the patient was spotted and arrested before Saturday morning, it was surprising how she was able to bypass the security barriers in the locked-down areas in the Ashanti Region and ended up in Accra.
“I’m just wondering how this person got to Accra because she was actually spotted and arrested. That is the shocking bit. How did she cross Kumasi? The person has been arrested. Yesterday when I was in Korle-Bu I chanced on that information,” he said on the show.
It was announced last week that one of the eight Guineans who tested positive for the novel coronavirus had escaped from the quarantined facility in Tamale.
The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed said the patient “scaled the wall [ of the facility]” leaving behind her belongings.
He described the development as “a very disturbing situation because she is positive” with the novel coronavirus.
“…I have not slept, with my security people. I directed that they should use all their networks to be able to track the person down and get her,” Mr. Saeed told the media.
There were two police and two soldiers who were guarding the guest house where the infected persons were being monitored.
At a press briefing last Wednesday, the government said the patient was still at large and all efforts were being made to have her arrested.

eeeeeiiiiiiii !!!!!! hhhhhhhmmmmmmmmm! i have no words. Wicked generation!. who is this lady? she is definitely not an ordinary person, she has the link and the men!! definitely some of the leaders!!
So if she escaped did she walk to Accra? The corrupt police force should know that we are not in ordinary times so they should stop taking bribes in cash or "kind". They were exempt during this period of lockdown and this girl managed to pass through two lockdown areas! How did she do that? And given she is a confirmed case you can do a projection of the number of people she might have infected during the travel. I think we are joking with this virus and it is a matter of time before it explodes right in our faces! It is on record that one lady was responsible for 60% of the infections in South Korea! And that is a country that is ruthlessly efficient in dealing with the pandemic. Though they managed to contain it, over 5000 people got infected! Imagine Ghana getting even 3000 cases of covid-19! It would be total pandemonium and this is exactly what WHO warned us against! We are too ill-prepared to deal with such numbers! Even advanced countries with the technology to produce their own respirators/ventilators are overwhelmed and their health systems have either collapsed or nearing collapse. They are rationing ventilators! Why did they not stop all vehicles and motor cycles moving out of Tamale when she escaped? The costs to do that is worth more than the costs to deal with the spread she may have caused whilst travelling! What is not in doubt is that she was definitely aided to by people(not "arnimals") to travel to Accra!
look at this moron called Ngiregi…..it's not all about politics oo….you cant get any political gain out of this....what has the government got to do with the lady's escape and subsequent re-arrest. is the doctor an npp minister? NDC is actually loosing the little sympathy votes it may have during this period big time bcos of the utterances of some of your people
@Ngiregi, are you talking out of ignorance or what? The picture of the girl was published some days ago.
What is the evidence that she is the one who escaped? You think we are ediots! A person flees a quarantine facility, no photos of hers was put in public domain, the regional authorities themselves said they didn't have her identity, how then was she arrested in Accra. As you have admitted, if the girl is that easily recognizable then what the heck the police checks points from Tamale to Accra were doing. Why does this government lie too much?
who the heck aided this moron to escape from the facility? The police should fish this person out and severely punish him or her.
