The Central Regional chapter of the Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA), has presented personal protective equipment (PPEs) and other items to the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital.

The gesture follows an appeal for support by the hospital, which is one of the facilities designated for managing Covid-19 cases in the Central Region.

The items, worth over GHc 5,000 were procured mainly through the contribution of members who were touched by the hospital’s plea to the general public for support to enable them to fight the Pandemic.

They include 6000 pieces of face masks, 5,000 pieces of hand gloves, 40 boxes of hand sanitizers, quantities of bottled water, among others.

Dr Kenneth Aikins, President of MOBA-Central who presented the items said the Association recognised the need to support efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

The National Association has contributed GHc 200,000 to the COVID-19 fund.

The support of the Association at the Regional level was for health facilities to effectively protect frontline staff and patients to check the spread of the virus.

Dr. Aikins commended the health workers for their dedicated service and assured them of the Country’s support.

For her part, a Senior Nursing Officer and the Coordinator of the COVID-19 Response team at the Hospital, Mrs Freda Serwaa Asiamah Horsu expressed gratitude to them for the gesture.

She said the support would greatly help the hospital provide essential services and also take good care of the COVID-19 patents who were in their care and called on other organisations to come to their aid.

“Using PPEs is very crucial in our work at this time. It helps us give adequate care and protect the staff rendering the care”, she indicated.

She revealed that five of the nineteen (19) COVID-19 patients being managed at the facility had been discharged and called for support for the COVID-19 survivors.

Mrs Assiamah Horsu pleaded with government, philanthropists, cooperate institutions, and other organisations to come to the aid of the hospital to address its infrastructure and logistic challenges.
