Police in the Central East Regional Police Command have gunned down five suspected assailants at Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region.
Two of the suspects managed to escape after they were purportedly contracted by unknown people to assassinate the Chief of Gomoa Fetteh, Nana Abor Atta II.
The suspects with guns were spotted in a taxi cab with the registration number GG 3427- 21 which they went to Gomoa Fetteh Township to assassinate the chief but failed in the attempt.
Upon a tip off, the police laid ambush and waited for the assailants and on reaching Gomoa Fetteh cemetery, the police opened fire on them leading to five of them dead.
Meanwhile, the central East Regional Police Command is yet to comment on the incident which occurred yesterday at about 10:30pm.
