Mr Ben Dagadu, Deputy Minister of Energy and Petroleum, has called on the youth to diligently apply themselves to acquiring information and knowledge rather making unproductive use of their time on the internet.

He said although the world had shrunk and societies were now more connected under the impact of the internet, there was much more to learn under the guidance of teachers, parents and the community.

Mr Dagadu was speaking at the End-of-Year Fundraising Dinner Dance of the Kpando Senior High School Old Students Association (KOSA) in Accra.

He said education or knowledge acquired without discipline would also be of no good to society and called for the constant monitoring of the use of the internet by the youth.

Mr Dagadu, who is also a member of the Association, said it was time the country committed greater resources to the educational system to facilitate the training of people to produce products like computers and other items locally.

He urged teachers to constantly seek additional professional development to impart greater cognitive skills in students.

Mr Dagadu commended the management of the School for turning out many people some of them occupying key positions.

Mr Nelson Aklamanu, President of the Association, said the Association has been able to provide their alma mater with a 20-seater water closet for the girls and had also provided wire mesh for the fencing of the school.

He said the Association had also instituted scholarship scheme for the needy students and also the Best Science student as a way of motivating the students.

Mr Daniel Diboa, Headmaster of the School, said last year, the School scored 100 percent in the WASSCE and also was adjudged the Second Best in Mathematics in the Volta Region.

He enumerated some of the challenges facing the School as the lack of staff accommodation, library, Assembly/Dinning Hall and vehicles saying these were hampering academic work.

Mr Diboa said the administrative block project has been awarded on contract and would soon be completed to improve academic work.

He commended the Association for their immense contribution towards the development of their alma mater.
