The American Tower Corporation (ATC) has held a media engagement in a bid to enhance public knowledge about its activities and make itself known.

The engagement, chaired by the Chief Executive Officer of ATC Ghana, Yahaya Yunusa and the head of legal, Enid Kanor enlightened journalists about the key roles of the firm.

The American Tower Corporation as a global digital infrastructure company keeps people and industries connected by providing the real estate necessary for today’s wireless communications.

The firm serves its customers through tower sites and other real estate solutions that support connectivity and opportunity.

Yahaya Yunusa said the company constructs telecommunication towers to lease to multiple customers to deliver fast and world-class wireless connectivity services to consumers and businesses alike.

Regulated by the National Communications Authority, Mr Yahaya said the company have over 4000 sites in Ghana creating 178 direct and 12,716 employments to over 90% Ghanaians.

He said the Ghanaian economy benefits from the company through taxes and revenue to the government, direct support to the digitization agenda, training and employment of Ghanaians (workers being 99% citizens), and investment in local vendors amongst others.

With regards to concerns about towers posing a health risk to residents in communities, the head of legal, Enid Kanor said there’s no medical research to back those claims.

She also noted that falling towers in some parts of the county cannot be associated with the ATC as they build their towers with the strictest expertise and conduct regular maintenance.

On some challenges faced by the ATC, Enid Kanor bemoaned the high-cost of land to build a tower, high fuel prices as they use the generator to provide backup power to their customers and also the rampant stealing of batteries and siphoning of fuels from their generators.

Despite the challenges, Mr Yahaya says the ATC remains committed to investing and developing wireless infrastructure solutions across the country.
