Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, a 36-year old businessman, was on Saturday elected as the new Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

At a delegates' congress held in Kumasi , he polled 559 votes to beat former Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Kwame Osei-Prempeh, who polled 209 votes.

In all, 769 delegates voted in the election supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The congress was designed to elect regional executives of the party, and also take stock of its activities in the past years.

Other executives elected were Mr. Abdul Rauf, First Vice-Chairman, Mrs. Beatrice Derkyi, Second Vice-Chairperson, Mr. Sam Pyne, Secretary, and Mr. Manaf Ibrahim, Assistant Secretary.

The rest were Madam Zeinabu Sallow, Treasurer, Mr. Kennedy Kankam, Organizer, Nana Ama Ampomah, Women's Organizer, Mr. Justin Kodua, Youth Organizer, and Alhaji Mohammed Hamid, Nasara Coordinator.

Mr. Antwi-Boasiako thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in the new executives, saying they would bring all hands on deck to achieve the party's objectives.

He promised to unite the party in order to bring victory, pledging to work hard to win not less than 80 per cent of the total ballots for the NPP in the 2016 polls.

Mr. Osei-Prempeh assured the elected Chairman of his unflinching support in the party's activities.
