Following the announcement of new timelines by the Electoral Commission (EC) for the conduct of the upcoming 2015 District Level Elections (DLE), CODEO is encouraging all the women, youth and the Persons with Disability (PWDs) who filed their nominations before the suspension of elections to go out in their numbers and file again to renew their ambitions to represent their people at the district assemblies.

CODEO further urges all women, youth and PWDs who harbour the ambition to become assembly members to pick up their nomination forms and file their nominations to contest in the upcoming DLE. Doing so will afford them the opportunities to represent the interest of their people in their localities.

The Coalition has re-activated its advocacy and sensitization activities on the participation of the marginalized in the re-scheduled 2015 District Level Elections.

Prior to the suspension of the elections by the Electoral Commission (EC), CODEO trained and built capacities of close to 3000 women, youth and PWDs candidates who filed their nominations to contest for positions into the District Assemblies in selected districts throughout the country.

CODEO has targeted increased numbers of women, youth and PWDs to contest and be elected into the assemblies and as well participate in the district assembly election process as poll watchers.

Towards September 1, 2015 CODEO will continue to observe the pre-election environment towards September 1, 2015 DLE, and inform the general public through regular media releases regarding the elections.

CODEO’s comprehensive observation of the 2015 local government elections has been made possible with the generous support of the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Ghana.

Signed

Mr. Albert Kofi Arhin

CODEO Coordinator
