Mr Peter Mac Manu, a former Western Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, says the party has the right men with an ethical sense of objective to win the 2024 general elections.
To that end, he has called for unity in the party to break the eight.
Mr Mac Manu, who was the 2016 and 2020 National Campaign Manager for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), on Saturday said: "We have a great task ahead of us, but we will do it because we have what it takes to win an election.
"We have the men and women to do the job. We have the duty of purpose and the development agenda that President Nana Addo and his government are bequeathing to the nation from social infrastructure etc. So, going into 2024, I am confident that the NPP will move Ghana forward," he told the GNA.
Mr Mac Manu is currently in the Western Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) internal elections at Ampain in the Ellembelle District.
The NPP internal ballots are underway in seven regions to elect regional executives.
The regions are Greater Accra, Eastern, Upper West, Volta, Oti, Western and Ashanti.
The Ashanti region elections, which were originally scheduled for Friday had now been rescheduled with a change in venue from the Regional Coordinating Council to the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The election would have 32 aspirants contesting, including incumbent Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, Asare Bediako, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi and Kofi Adum Barwuah.
In Accra, 32 aspirants are contesting for executive positions.
Amongst the 10 portfolios up for grabs, the first vice-chairman position is the only portfolio with an unopposed candidate.
In Accra, incumbent Chairman Divine Otoo Agorhom is coming up against Alfred Boye, a former Acting Greater Accra Regional Chairman.
Elections were held across seven regions thus the Northern, North East, Ahafo, Bono, East, Western North, and Upper East on Friday, May 27, 2022.
In those polls, five incumbent regional chairmen retained their seats while incumbents in the Bono East and Western North regions lost their seats.
Elections for the Bono Region are slated for Sunday, May 29, 2022, while that of the Central Region had been suspended indefinitely.

He’s still taking about ‘we have the men and women’ when the country needs better brains to steer the country out of its present predicament. You think governance is all about winning an election? Breaking the 8 and come and do what? What we need currently is review of the constitution for us to chart a new course of action for the country. For now, there’s no hope for the future and I am sad for the unborn generation. Politicians have failed the country and that they are a disgrace to democracy. All you can do best is winning an election as if that’s the solution to Ghana’s problems.
Mac Manu, well said. Yes the NPP has what it takes to ' break the 8'. Unfortunately the neglect of hard working party foot soldiers can derail this agenda. As any war leader, they will tell you you don't go to war with a demotivated and demoralized army and expect to win. You were one time national chairman of the NPP, you will be the first to admit that the relationship between government and party then is not what we are seeing today. Currently we have appointees who are so greedy, arrogant, self centered and full of empty pride ( not all of them, some). Unfortunately these are the people who have no biological child of 18 years i.e. the qualification age to be able to vote in Ghana. Now who's 18 year old son or daughter are you relying on to queue to 'break the 8 for the party'.? Under kufour we saw a vibrant NPP for 8 years, the fact that Akuffo Addo led with 49% in the first round of the 2008 elections meant the NPP was still the popular choice of Ghanaians because Kufuor and his appointees never forgot for once that it's the NPP who made them what they are. If you have a leaders who don't look back to check if their followers are around and yet expect same followers to waste precious man hours to queue to vote for the party only for some young men/women majority of whom were single and chamber and hall occupants to be appointed ministers/ MMDCE's to turn round to think nobody matters, you will be surprised in 2024. Ask yourself how come a party in opposition with little or no resources could get 169 seats out of 275. In government with all the resources same party, same voters, this number nosedived from 169 to 137. Breaking the 8 won't be easy, not with the current attitude of some appointees. The earlier they change their attitudes the better. The bigger fight is in 2024, NPP constituency, regional and national elections are all group stages. The knockout stage is 7 December, 2024. As for that one every registered voter is a delegate.
