Former president and flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani, had heavily criticised the judiciary for their bias towards the people of All when the judiciary failed to put importance to their issue of SALL even though many stakeholders called for justice for the people of SALL to have representation in parliament.
Addressing a mini rally at Guan constituency which houses Santrofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe, Mr Mahama said the justice system must be consistent and if it is not doesn’t become fair to the people of this country.
Hitting hard on the judiciary over their biases, Mr. Mahama said, the judiciary hounded Hon Gyakye Quayson and for almost two years his constituency, Assin North never had a representation in parliament and the judiciary never bothered about them not having representation in parliament.
“and the justice system must be consistent, if it is inconsistent, it is not fair to the people of this country because you treat people one way, 4 years they can be without a member of parliament and it doesn’t matter, their representation is not important to you. Gyakye quayson should be out of parliament for almost 2 years, it doesn’t matter because assin north people are not your people”, Mr Mahama had said.
Likening it to the current situation in parliament, Mr. Mahama said when speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin declared 4 seat vacant in parliament the judiciary are now up and running about being concerned saying that the human rights of the 4 constituents are being trampled upon. Questioning the kind of judiciary system Ghana has now Mr. Mahama said the situation in SALL remains the cardinal sin of the fourth republic and should never occur again.
“Then when it comes to NPP MPs the speaker declares their seats vacant for one and half months until we go to the election, that one it is unheard of, their human rights are affected, I mean what kind of justice system is this”, Mahama queried.
M Mahama indicated that the rights of every body in ghana are important and everybody must be equal before the law and the people of SALL are not inferior citizens of Ghana, similarly, the people of Assin North are not inferior citizens of Ghana compared to the 4 vacant seats the parliament had declared.
“We believe that an injustice was done to the people of SALL and it has been called the cardinal sin of the fourth republic and never again must this happen. The rights of everybody in Ghana are important, and everybody must be equal before the law, the people of Santrofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe are not inferior citizens of Ghana, and the citizens of Assin North are not inferior people of Ghana compared to the two that the supreme court is struggling for their human right”, Mr Mahama said
