His Excellency, President J.E.A. Mills, has held closed-door meeting today with the Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan, and his two Deputies at the Castle Osu.
Top Government officials such as the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mrs Betty Mould Iddrisu, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Newman Martey and Mr Mahama Ayarigah, the Presidential Spokesperson also participated in the meeting.
The media, after the closed-door meeting witnessed and covered the handing over of a memorandum on suggestions on how to fund Political Parties by the state and other sources.
The Presidential Spokesperson, Mr. Ayariga who briefed the media after the meeting said the discussions centered on the memorandum from the EC to the President on funding of Political Parties.
He said for example that the document suggested that only parties which get at least 1% of Presidential and Parliamentary votes should benefit from the proposed fund for Political Parties.
Mr. Ayariga said President Mills also lauded the (EC) for their role in ensuring peaceful elections that has earned Ghana an enviable image in the eyes of the world.
