Host of AsempaFMs Ekosii sen current affairs programme, Nana Kwabena Bobie Ansah, says the decision by the Communications Team of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to boycott his show has more to do with his disinclination to do the bidding of some NPP activists.
According to him, his unwillingness to fulfill the demands asked of him, led to the boycott of his show by the NPP.
Stopping short of naming those who offered him the booties, he stressed however that those who demanded the political favours from him are individuals close to the hierarchy of the NPP.
I have in my possession, tapes that can authentic all the comments Im makingThose who offered me that booties, they are very close to the (NPP) hierarchy, he said.
The garrulous host recently had a run-in with the NPP when the opposition party announced that they have boycotted the stations political discussion programme. According to the New Statesman, the decision of the party according to sources at the partys headquarters is borne out of the deliberate policy of the programme, to continually focus its programming agenda on attacking the Presidential Candidate of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and the party as a whole.
This sustained campaign by Eko Sie Sen of attacking Nana Addo has been ongoing for the last couple of years and thus has prompted the party to register its displeasure, firstly through protests to Multimedia group and now the boycott of Asempa FM.
According to the report, though the NPP admits that it is not in a position to determine for any media house how they run their programmes, however, they are at liberty to determine whether or not to continue promoting or participating on a program that they are convinced and, indeed, many well-minded listeners are equally convinced that is designed to unfairly attack the NPP and its leaders, especially our flagbearer.
But the embattled host who rubbished the NPPs accusation, explained that he does not conjure topics from the air but simply does a follow up of what has already been discussed on other radio platforms in the mornings including Peace FM, Radio Gold, Joy FM and Adom FM. According to him, he was labeled a devil by the NPP when he decided to touch on the leaked diplomatic cables from the whistle-blower website, WikiLeaks, for five days which he said had already been running consecutively on other stations for three weeks.
Speaking in an interview on Radio Gold, he maintained his innocence saying he has no antagonistic style of approaching issues and thus finds it intriguing the accusation being levelled at him.
I dont do anything different from what Sefa Kayi and others have been doing on their show. I dont concoct stories and conjure them from the heavens. I am not a Managing Editor of a newspaperam I a printing press, do I have a printing press in my room, do I print stories, am I a correspondent for WikiLeaks? If concaine issues come today I will discuss it, if wee matters come, I willif money laundering matters come today I will and if gay issues come I will (discuss them), he said.
He swore not to change his style of presiding over his show and if the NPP felt uncomfortable with his moderation or selection of topics, then so be it, adding that when John Kumah of the NPP Young Patriots made some unsavoury and derogatory comments about President Mills on the show, the NDC never accused him of being biased but when its about the NPP, they cry foul and accuse him of bias.
