An Accra High Court has thrown out an application for injunction filed by Dr. Sontim Tobiga, a member of the People’s National Convention (PNC), seeking to restrain the Party from holding its national delegates congress and to prevent current party executives from holding themselves as such.
The court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Jakpasu also charged the plaintiffs a sum of 2,000 Ghana cedis.
The General Secretary of PNC Bernard Monnah speaking to Citi News at the Court premises immediately after the ruling said the court threw out the case because it realized that the issues raised were without merit.
He added that upon the court ruling the PNC will hold a national executive committee meeting to set a date to choose a flagbearer for the 2012 general elections.
“The court looked at the issues and realized that issues were without merit. Our rank and file must be energized by this ruling and prepare themselves as their regional executives come a national executive committee meeting upon which we shall choose a date to elect who should the party for election 2012 and beyond" Mr Mornah said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Somtim Tobiga, who filed the suit, has welcomed the court ruling.
