Suspended General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has spurned at the decision by the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party to extend the suspension imposed on him by an additional one month.
The FEC has allegedly written a letter to Mr. Adams informing him of its decision to extend his suspension for another month.
Mr. Adams was suspended for three months after a leaked recording with a voice purported to be his, was heard in a discussion with a dye-in-the-wool NPP activist and Executive Director of the Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko saying he will do everything possible to prevent President John Mills from securing the mandate of Ghanaians for a second term in the December 7, General Elections.
On the tape, the man who sounded like Mr. Adams expressed his frustration at the defeat of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, wife of former President Rawlings who contested against President Mills.
The party, following the revelation, directed the Disciplinary Committee to commence investigations into the matter but Mr. Adams has consistently maintained his innocence.
The party executives also gave the indication that he will only be reinstated after he has been cleared in a full scale investigation being conducted by the Disciplinary Committee of the NDC.
Not enthused by the action taken against him, Kofi Adams, who also doubles as the Spokesperson of the Rawlingses, dragged the party to court after his suspension was announced. However, in May, an Accra High Court directed Mr. Adams and the party to settle the matter out of court and resort to an alternative dispute resolution.
But before the Disciplinary Committee could present its report, the FEC has written to Mr. Adams, informing him of its decision to extend his suspension for another month.
Speaking in an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FMs Kokrokoo morning show, Kofi Adams rubbished the statement and wondered the kind of investigations the Disciplinary Committee was conducting which necessitates an additional month to conclude.
According to him, he was served with a letter to appear before the committee when it was left with two days for the initial suspension to expire, but due to his schedules and other activities he had committed himself to, he was unable to appear before the committee.
Forget about it and lets talk about something betterThere is no need wasting time over spilt milkeven if they give them the rest of the lives they have, they cannot find anything If you couldnt use 90 days to do your work, what can you do with 30 daysThey waited up to two days to the expiration of the suspension before they wrote a letter asking me to appear before the Disciplinary Committee and when I was not able to attend, then they sought for another extension to do their workI am not bothered Kofi Adams said.
In a related development, Mr Adams is said to be considering seeking legal redress since he claims the FEC does not have the mandate to extend the suspension when they are not the body that took that decision to suspend me in the first place.
I will go to court again because that is where I believe that Justice will be done, he reportedly said.
