Former First Lady Adds Nothing But Trouble To The Ruling Party - Onanssis

A youth activist of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kumasi, Kobby Onanssis Rosely, has stated that the departure of the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang, Rawlings from the party would be welcome news.

According to the NDC youth leader, who is also the Ashanti Regional Project Coordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), noted that currently, the former first lady adds nothing but trouble to the ruling party, and therefore, her exit would leave the party to concentrate on its efforts at winning the upcoming general elections.

Lets be honest to ourselves, does the former first lady add anything to the NDC? All she always does is to rain unjustifiable criticisms on President Mills and this government, so if she has decided to quit, it should be good news for the NDC, he asserted.

Onasis observed in an interview with The Chronicle newspaper that the former first lady and her associates had done enough harm to the NDC, which they cannot repair, even if they decide to stay in the party, because they cannot stand on any political platform and retract everything they have said about this government and President Mills.

He argued that Mrs. Rawlings and her cohorts were enemies within the NDC, adding enemies within are far more vile and dangerous than enemies outside. Left to me alone, I would say that Mrs. Rawlings and her people must leave for good; the NDC has bigger and more serious issues to deal with, than to spend time talking about the fact that Mrs. Rawlings was planning to form a new party, he pontificated.

The NDC youth activist also questioned the credibility of personalities said to be associated with the former first family in the formation of the new party, stressing that people like Dr. Josiah Aryeh and Dr. Agyemang were individuals who lacked credibility in the realm of politics in the country.

Onasis said the NDC would come out even stronger and achieve a resounding victory in the December 7 elections, because of the excellent achievements of President Mills and the NDC government.

Ghanaians will not vote on the basis of Mrs. Konadu leaving the NDC; they will vote because of the outstanding performance of the NDC; go to the grassroots and see developmental projects for yourselves, those are issues voters will be considering to vote, he emphasized.

If things go according to plan, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings may be expected to put the icing on the cake by formally announcing the formation of a new political party to end years and months of speculations about her political future.
