The Yendi Municipal Assembly has failed to elect a Presiding Member as the two contestants could not poll the expected two-thirds of the votes cast.
The 43 assembly members present failed to elect any of the two contestants namely; Mr Timothy Babayi Budi and Mr Ibrahim Abubakar.
During the first balloting Mr Babayi Budi polled 25 votes whilst Ibrahim Abubakar attracted 18 votes.
The two contestants were given time for consultation but they failed to come into agreement.
The election being supervised by the Electoral Commission was postponed for a new date to be fixed.
Mr Issah Zakaria, Municipal Chief Executive asked the assembly members to forge unity of purpose in their deliberations and decisions concerning the Assembly so that together they can move the body forward.
