The Deputy Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Perry Okudzeto has reinforced his party’s directives to suspend Dr. Wereko-Brobbey, a stalwart in the party following his seemingly disparaging remarks about the conduct of the party.
Last Friday, the National Executive Committee of the party held a meeting and reached a decision to suspend him in accordance with Article 3(d)(f) of the party’s constitution.
Though Dr. Wereko-Brobbey has denied notice of the sanction, the Deputy Communications Director in an interview with Kwami Sefa-Kayi on Peace FM says he will possibly face his sanction in the course of the week.
He was of the view that Dr. Wereko-Brobbey’s public utterances about the party violate the provisions in the party’s constitution and so, cannot be overlooked.
He explained the duties of the members of the party, saying a member is obliged to be “protecting and promoting the good name of the party. Protecting the unity of the party. Be loyal and truthful to the party. Abide by and publicly uphold the decisions of the party.”
This, he stated, has not been upheld by him (Wereko-Brobbey) and therefore believed the party’s decision is in the right order.
“His dissenting views to upholding party decisions that have been taken at the highest level of the party violate this section of our party’s constitution. When you go to Article 4, Section 7; it talks about misconduct and it also violations. It says that people who violate the duties as a party members should be sanctioned. It also talks about the breach of duty to uphold publicly party policies.” he said.
He also volunteered an advice for him, saying “he (Wereko-Brobbey) should think about the things that he has written. The things that he has said about our party in the public domain and advised us, youth, who are working for this party whether it is right to be doing these things and be putting out these things in the public domain as a party member. If he calls himself a member of the New Patriotic Party.”
