Bawumia Is Not 'Junior Jesus'

Dr. Charletas Wereko-Brobbey, a member of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP) has sted that the party’s 2012 Vice Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is not a “junior Jesus, who is infallible.”

He said even though Dr Bawumia's efforts as a key witness for the petitioners was commendable, there were several others who could have played the part due to the nature of the case.

Dr. Wereko-Brobbey has been severely criticized for his recent comments on the performance of the Dr. Bawumia in the ongoing election petition at the Supreme Court.

In a statement, the former Volta River Authority (VRA) boss described the star witness of the first and third respondents, Johnson Asiedu Nketia as ‘masterful’ and Dr. Bawumia as ‘clueless’ when they both took their turn on the witness stand.

The leadership of the NPP has since served notice of Dr. Wereko-Brobbey's suspension.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Monday however, Dr Wereko-Brobbey questioned why the party had taken offense to his opinions on the on-going case.

“I am entitled to my opinion just as so many others are expressing opinions. I don't see the logic in all of this; that I am not entitled to an opinion?

Is anybody God? That Dr. Bawumia has become a junior Jesus who is infallible? What are you talking about?”

Concerning his widely reported suspension from the NPP, Dr. Wereko-Brobbey cautioned that “charity they say begins at home so nobody should tell me I have been suspended.”

Meanwhile, the Deputy Director of Communication of the NPP, Perry Okudzeto clarified that contrary to the claims by Dr. Wereko-Brobbey that the party's constitution had been breached with the manner of his suspension, no such breach had taken place.

According to him, the NPP’s constitution states that, “a member of the party may be suspended from membership of the party or holding any office in the party pending an inquiry into his or her conduct by the disciplinary committee.”
