Information reaching peacefmonline.com indicates that Stephen Atubiga, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, has been released from prison after serving his 3 day jail sentence.

Stephen Atubiga was on Tuesday sentenced to a 3-day term in prison for criminal contempt.

Atubiga was said to have made contemptuous comments on Accra-based Asempa FM that the NDC would not hand over power even if the court ruled to that effect in the ongoing election petition case.

Prior to that the nine Judges of the Supreme Court had already given 'last warning' to commentators of the ongoing election petition who go about making 'contemptuous' statements.

Mr Atubiga was subsequently summoned by the court on Thursday, June 27, 2013 for his comments. Knowing the gravity of his comments, he started apologising and swore never to make such comments if he was allowed 'to walk'. However, he was sentenced to 3 days in prison at Akuse.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM, Ras Mubarak, a member of the NDC confirmed the release of Mr Atubiga and indicated that he was in good health.

"...he was released an hour and thirty minutes ago and he is in good health; he is excited that he is going home to meet his family. He will be addressing the media on Tuesday and so he will not be granting any interviews..." he said.

According to him, members of the NDC were just going to pay him a visit only to realise that he was being released.

"we are very excited that he is being released and we are praying that Ken will also be released for everything to fall into the past. We should use this incident to come together and work for the nation and also learn not to make such comments again", he added.
