The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Ade Coker says the country needs to find a pragmatic way of solving the economic situation of the country instead of playing politics with it.

According to him, the economic crisis facing the country now, did not start in the current administration, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but from previous administrations and so there is the need for the country to come together and find a lasting solution to the problems.

“The inability for us to rectify and sustain our base economic structures has resulted in the current crisis. If you are not producing enough energy to propel your economic activities, how do you expect growth? We should rather come together as one instead of coming to score political points. We have got to where we are because we as a people want to score political points instead of looking at the fundamental structures…”

Mr. Ade Coker was commenting on the recent complains and comments from various organizations concerning how bad the economy is.

Various organisations such as the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the World Bank and many more have raised various concerns over the ‘bad’ state of the economy.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by former Finance minister, under the Kufuor-led NPP administration, Yaw Osafo Maafo, on Tuesday, outlined problems facing the country and suggested measures the John Mahama led administration needs to adopt to bring change into the economy which to them (NPP) is in tatters.

Speaking to Kwami Sefa-Kayi on Wednesday, Ade Coker said if the attitude of Ghanaians toward work will change and the game of politicking will be avoided, the solution to the current challenges will be found.

He added that there is the need for the country to have a common economic policy so that even if there is a change in government, that policy will still be used.

“To solve this issue, we have to look within ourselves. The current issue can’t be blamed on one government. It is a continuation process…the attitude of workers in terms of punctuality, attitude towards work and production especially in government sectors…we should all think outside the box and look for reforms that will enable us solve the issue. We should always look at Ghana first and always address the issue…” he intimated.
