Former Member of Parliament for Asikuma Odobeng Brakwa Constituency in the Central Region, Paul Collins Appiah Ofori has signed a cheque of GH¢7,000 to settle the fine imposed on two members of the New Patriotic Party by the Supreme Court justices hearing the ongoing election petition.

P.C. Appiah Ofori, as he is affectionately called volunteered to pay the fine barely an hour after the court found the pair, Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie; the General Secretary of the party and Hopeson Adorye; a member of the party’s communication team guilty of criminal contempt.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday convicted Mr Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, aka Sir John, Hopeson Adorye of criminal contempt of court and slapped fines of GH¢5,000 and GH¢2,000 respectively.

They were to deposit the money with the court by the close of work Thursday or in default serve a prison sentence of six and three months, respectively.

In addition, Sir John is to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for six months or in default serve six months in jail while Adorye is to be bonded for three months to be of good behaviour or serve a three month jail term.

Mike Ocquaye Junior, a member of the legal team of petitioners in the electoral challenge disclosed in an interview that on Accra-based Adom FM that Mr. Appiah Ofori unconditionally signed a cheque to cover the full amount.
