Director of Communication for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region has called on the media and politicians not to paint the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll black with the ‘divisive politics’ in the country.
A publication in the "New Free Press" newspaper alleged that the Asantehene led the process to bribe some Supreme Court justices to influence the outcome of the election petition and this was discussed during the newspaper review on Kessben FM, a Kumasi-based radio station.
However, in a strong-worded statement, 15 sub-chiefs, acting on behalf of the Asantehene, issued a statement threatening to take action against those perpetrating the rumour.
"Asantehene is one of the Kings who is revered in the country and so to level such an accusation against him is neither here nor there". Allotey Jacobs made this pronouncements on Wednesday's edition of the "Kokrokoo Morning Show
“He is one of the most important kings we have in Ghana and now we want to associate him with our polarized politics; destroying his reputation. We don't have to involve him in our petty politics; because the man also represents the eye of Ghana. He is one of the most regarded kings in Africa. This is a legacy, a wealth that we have; to have a king of such stature” he opined.
Allotey Jacobs also called on the managing editor of the New Free Press newspaper to in his own interest, ‘immediately’ apologise to the Asantehene because “we need to protect what we have”
