Akufo-Addo Mourns Prof. Kofi Awoonor
Like many Ghanaians, I have heard with shock and dismay the news of the tragic killing of Prof Kofi Awoonor, former Chairperson of the Council of State, in the terrorist outrages committed yesterday at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, Kenya.
A well-known writer, poet and film maker, Prof Awoonor has played a prominent role in the public life of our country these last three or four decades. Despite our political differences, he and I maintained a good personal relationship.
I shall forever remember with fondness his erudition, wit and courtesy. The Ghanaian nation has lost a distinguished son.
My sincere condolences and sympathies go to his family for their loss, and to his son who was also injured in the abominable incident, and wish him a speedy recovery.
May God bless him and may his soul rest in perfect peace.
signed.
Nana Akufo-Addo
