Mawusi Nudekor Awity, an aspiring National WomenοΏ½s Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has emphasized that election 2016 should not be taken by the rank and file of the party as being far away. She has therefore urged all party faithful to start working hard, stressing that women should be at the front stage of the NPP campaign.
She told DAILY GUIDE exclusively that her campaign trips had afforded her the opportunity to interact with all kinds of women who are deeply concerned about the economic hardships unleashed on Ghanaians by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), and that any strenuous efforts by the NPP to cash in on the current economic situation would yield a lot of dividends in 2016.
οΏ½The campaign has to start now. We should not wait until 2016. Women and children in Ghana are really suffering, and the NPP has to step in and stem the tide,οΏ½ she urged.
Mrs. Awity, who is womenοΏ½s management and rights advocate, said she would lead the effort to mobilize Ghanaian women to support the NPPοΏ½s cause when given the nod as WomenοΏ½s Organizer.
οΏ½This government must go! The hardships are unbearable. All the social interventions that were supporting the people, especially the poor, are in disarray. I am offering myself; and I am someone who can empower women in the country to help bring the NPP back to office for the good projects to continue once again,οΏ½ she underscored.
She said her background as an advocate and organizer of women had prepared her to assist the NPP to address womenοΏ½s issues better.
οΏ½I founded the Network for Women in Growth (NEWIG) in 2002 and through this effort, I assisted in the training of more than 6,000 women οΏ½ mostly in the rural areas,οΏ½ Mrs. Awitey recalled.
οΏ½Through NEWIG, we have been able to empower women with entrepreneurial skills and I intend to extend it to the party and ensure that it becomes part of our activities,οΏ½ she said.
οΏ½We have to continue to work hard to get more women into active politics; but we have to also empower them economically and I would strive to make NPP womenοΏ½s wing the mouthpiece of Ghanaian women.οΏ½
She pledged to set up womenοΏ½s resource centre for the party where they would offer training, scouting for jobs and engage other income generating activities saying.
Mrs. Awity has toured the Greater Accra, Western, Central, Eastern, Ashanti, Volta and will be going to the Brong Ahafo and the three northern regions this week.
On her contribution to the NPP, she said she had supported the it at the grassroot level and was a member of the 2008 national campaign team.
