Members of five statutory committees of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been sworn in to assist the national executive to conduct the affairs of the party.
The five committees are Financial and Administration; Constitutional and Legal; Disciplinary; Organisational; and Research.
The reconstitution and inauguration of the committees, especially the Disciplinary Committee, have been described as opportune to restore the peace and harmony that have been strained following the appointments announced in the Communications Directorate of the party.
As part of the restructuring of the party’s hierarchy, the acting director of communications was asked to proceed on a two-year leave which had accumulated, sparking a media war on the airwaves in the end.
Recently at a press conference, the National Chairman of the party, Mr Paul Afoko, hinted that the Disciplinary Committee would be put in place, so that members who broke the party’s code of ethics, regulations and rules would be hauled before it to answer for their action.
The eight-member Disciplinary Committee is headed by Rev. Dr Asante Antwi, with Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, Nana Yaw Osei, Messrs Ayikoi Otoo and W. O. Boafo, Madam Ama Busia, Prof. Mike Ocquaye and Alhaji Abdul Rahman as members.
The Constitutional Committee is headed by Prof. Mike Ocquaye; Organisational by Mr Peter Mac Menu; Finance and Administration by Mr Kwadwo Mpiani; while Research is by Ambassador Mensah Bonsu.
Swearing in the last batch of members of the various committees yesterday, Mr Afoko commended them for accepting the onerous task of public service to the party.
He said with the statutory committees in place, the members would be expected to positively bring their experience and expertise to bear in running and conducting the various affairs of the party.
Mr Afoko, who administered the oath of office and the oath of secrecy to the members of the various committees, urged them to be circumspect and avoid divulging the party’s internal affairs to the public.
Present at the swearing-in ceremony were a former Minister of Defence, Dr Addo Kufuor; a former Upper East Regional Minister and member of the Research Committee, Alhaji Alhassan Samari; a former Minister and member of the 14-member Research Committee, Alhaji Rashid Bawa; a member of the Research Committee, Dr Peter Twumasi; a former Minister and member of the Organisational Committee, Mr S. K. Boafo, and a member of the Research Committee, Mr Victor Newmann.
Also present at the ceremony were some national executive members of the party, including the National Organiser, Mr John Boadu, the National Women’s Organiser, Ms Otiko Djaba, and Mr Kwabena Agyepong, General Secrtetary of the NPP.
